Meet the Owner: Cassy Sullivan

For more than 30 years, Cassy Sullivan has dedicated her career to caring for others. Today, she continues that mission as the owner of two Right at Home territories serving Chester, Virginia. After 12 years of Franchise ownership, she says her decision to leave hospital nursing and open a Right at Home office remains one of the best decisions she has ever made.

Her story is a reminder that Franchise ownership is more than building a business. For many Right at Home owners, it's an opportunity to create meaningful impact in their communities while receiving the support needed to grow something of their own.

A Career Built on Caring

Before becoming a Franchise Owner, Cassy spent her career as a registered nurse. Healthcare wasn't just a profession for her. It was part of her identity.

"I've been a nurse practically my whole life," she explained. "I come from a family of nurses."

After spending 16 years in a hospital setting, she began noticing changes in the healthcare environment. As processes became more automated, she felt there was less opportunity for the personal bedside care that had drawn her to nursing in the first place.

"I really wanted to do something that made a difference," she said.

Discovering Franchise Opportunities

Cassy wasn't initially searching for a home care Franchise. In fact, it was a friend who first encouraged her to investigate franchising as a path to business ownership.

As someone who had never owned a business before, she was drawn to the idea of receiving guidance and support as she built her own company. She researched several Franchise brands, including other home care concepts, but one stood out.

"When I started talking with people from Right at Home, I felt the support," she recalled. "I felt like they really cared. They cared about me and my business."

For Cassy, franchising offered something she didn't have to navigate alone: a proven System, experienced coaches, and a Network invested in her success.

No Two Days Are Alike

More than a decade later, Cassie's days remain busy and varied.

As an owner, her responsibilities range from overseeing office operations and supporting her team to networking throughout the community and building relationships with referral sources.

A significant portion of her time is spent ensuring clients receive exceptional care and that caregivers have the support they need to succeed. She also recognizes the importance of being visible in her market.

"I'm the face of the business," she explained.

The local presence helps families understand who Right at Home is and how the office can support seniors and adults who need assistance remaining in their homes.

Support When it Matters Most

When asked what aspect of the Right at Home Franchise System had been most valuable, Cassie immediately pointed to the accessibility of support.

She knows that whenever a challenge arises, someone is available to help.

"I know that if I ever need anybody from Right at Home, I can pick up the phone," she said. " They call me back if they don't answer, or they answer right away."

Coaching and Continuous Growth

Support hasn't stopped since she opened her doors.

For 12 years, Cassy has worked with a Business Performance Coach who meets with her every month. Those conversations provide an opportunity to discuss challenges, evaluate opportunities, and identify strategies for growth.

In addition to coaching, she values the relationships she's built with fellow Franchise owners across the System.

"We're a big family," she said. "We call each other. We talk to each other."

Annual conferences, roundtable discussions, training opportunities, and peer connections all contribute to an environment in which owners can learn from one another and continue to develop their businesses.

Finding Purpose Every Day

When asked to share a memorable success story, Cassy struggled to identify just one.

From her perspective, the most rewarding part of ownership isn't a single moment; it's the opportunity to make a tangible impact every day.

"The reason I came to Right at Home is because every day I feel like I'm making a difference," she said.

Helping seniors remain independent in their homes and supporting families during challenging times gives her a sense of purpose she was searching for when she left the hospital environment years ago.

"Every day is a feel-good moment."

Advice for Prospective Owners

Looking back, Cassy remembers feeling nervous about leaving the security of a traditional career. Walking away from a steady paycheck and entering business ownership wasn't easy.

"I was scared. I was petrified," she said.

Twelve years later, she offers a piece of simple advice to individuals considering a Right at Home Franchise: "Do it."

Her confidence comes from knowing that owners don't have to build their businesses alone.

"You have the support. You have the guidance. This is the time. Just do it."

She is also candid about the realities of ownership. Business requires commitment, hard work, and a genuine passion for serving others. But for those motivated to make a difference, she believes the rewards far outweigh the challenges.

Cassy's story highlights something many Right at Home Franchise owners discover: home care is more than a business. It's an opportunity to improve lives, build meaningful relationships, and create lasting impact within your community.
