Our Process: Becoming a Right at Home Owner
When you become a Right at Home owner, you’re not just buying a franchise. You’re joining a family. You can feel the difference from the very first step in your journey to ownership. You’ll start building real and meaningful connections even before you sign on the dotted line.
Naturally, you’ll have tons of questions along the way. And we’ll be right there to help you find the answers. But you should also know what to expect from the process. What happens from the time you decide to buy your own Right at Home franchise to the time you sign your franchise agreement?
Quite a bit, actually! Let’s take a step-by-step look at the process of becoming a Right at Home owner.
Step 1: Get a Call on the Calendar
Scheduling your initial call
The very first thing you’ll do is make plans to chat with one of our Development Directors – Jenna Gonser or Julie Synan. This first call is an opportunity to share your personal motivation for considering a home care franchise.
Tell us what brings you to Right at Home and what you hope to achieve as part of our network. This call will only take a few moments, but if you complete the steps that follow, this is just the beginning of your relationship with your assigned Development Director.
Step 2: Tell Us Your Story
Creating your personal profile
This is where you’ll tell us a bit more about yourself. You’ll provide a detailed profile that includes information like:
- Motivations for starting a business
- Work history
- Financial preparedness
And don’t worry – we’ll provide you with an easy profile template to work from.
Our goal with this step is to make sure that each franchisee is the right fit for Right at Home and that Right at Home is the right fit for every prospective owner. When it comes to onboarding new franchisees, our focus is on quality over quantity. It’s absolutely vital that franchise ownership is the right choice for everybody involved. We’ll work together during this stage to make that determination.
Step 3: Zoom Out for an Overview
Meeting with our development directors
Now that we know a bit more about you, it’s time for you to get to know us a little better. You’ll meet again with your assigned Development Director (Jenna or Julie) for a 30-minute Zoom presentation.
Here you'll learn about:
- Right at Home’s strong industry partnerships
- Our unparalleled support system
- Startup costs and franchise fees
You’ll also get some great insights from our leadership team. Consider this the bird ’s-eye view of what we’re all about.
Step 4: Dig Into the Documents
Receiving your Franchise Disclosure Documents (FDD)
After your broad overview, we'll take a deeper dive into the details.
Every prospective owner receives a copy of our Franchise Disclosure Documents (FDD) for review. These documents contain all kinds of important information about the Right at Home company, including:
- Financial specs
- Territorial boundaries
- Encroachment procedures
- A complete list of current franchisees
We admit, there’s a lot to go over. That’s why your assigned Development Director will follow up with a scheduled phone call to highlight some of the key details and answer any questions you have up to this point.
Step 5: Contact Experienced Franchisees
Getting real-world validation
Now that you’ve heard from us, we want you to learn about Right at Home franchising from the people who live it every single day. Contact at least three current franchisees. If you’d like to reach out to more than three, that is certainly encouraged. As Right at Home CEO Margaret Haynes says, “You have the list of all of our franchise owners, so take advantage. We don’t tell you who you need to call. That’s up to you. So call them.”
Not sure where to start? Your Development Director can help you decide who to contact based on factors like location, life circumstances, and years in business. We feel like this is the best way to get a well-rounded look at what a commitment to Right at Home truly entails. No matter who you speak to, we know you’ll find that our franchise owners are happy to share their experiences – both the triumphs and the challenges.
“My hope is that you get someone on a great day, you get someone on a good day, and quite honestly, I hope you get someone on a hair-on-fire kind of day,” says Margaret. “Because ultimately, we don’t just want to sell you a franchise. We want to make sure it’s a good match for you and a good match for us.”
Step 6: You Are Cordially Invited
Receiving your invitation to Discovery Day
This is an opportunity for us to check in with one another before taking the next big leap forward. You’ll meet with Sr. VP of Franchise Development Jen Chaney to share your experiences with Right at Home so far. At this point in the process, how are you feeling about the idea of franchise ownership?
If we all agree that ownership is the right move for you, you’ll receive an invitation to a virtual Discovery Day with members of our senior leadership team.
Step 7: Meet the Family
Attending Discovery Day
This is a big day. By this time, you should be fairly certain about the decision to open your own franchise, because you’ll be meeting with every member of our leadership team.
You’ll have the chance to spend 45 minutes with each leader. You’ll get to ask questions, find out how each of our departments works, and get a deeper sense of the kind of support you’ll receive as a member of the Right at Home network.
Every single Discovery Day participant gets a chance to sit down for a face-to-face with:
- CEO Margaret Haynes
- CFO Jeff Vavricek
- COO Rod Roberts
- Chief of Strategic Growth Brady Schwab
- Chief of Marketing Dawn Drazdys
- Sr. Director of Operations, Mallory Hoskinson
- Sr. Director of Government Affairs Doug Robertson.
Discovery Day is more than an opportunity to learn how Right at Home works. It’s also a chance to see why it works. You’ll experience a company culture and internal connection that are truly unique to Right at Home. These features are at the heart of our success, and the success of our individual franchisees.
Step 8: Sign on the Line
Executing Approval & Agreement
Once you return home from Discovery Day, you’ll have a week to absorb everything you’ve experienced. If you decide that you’re ready to proceed, you’ll sign your franchise agreement and pay your franchise fee by the end of this week. (Extensions to the franchisee fee deadline may be made on a case-by-case basis).
What Comes Next?
You are now officially in pre-launch mode. So what does that mean? Every new franchisee is immediately enrolled in what we call the Right Start program. This is where we work directly with you to make sure you have everything you need to go from purchasing your franchise to opening your doors.
