1851 Franchisee Spotlight: Anastasia and Zafeer Khan

Anastasia and Zafeer Khan bring Right at Home to Mountain View, California, after seeing the need for better senior care. With a background in tech and firsthand experience helping aging family members, the Khans are stepping in to serve their community with trusted in-home care.

Anastasia and Zafeer Khan know how difficult it can be to find the right care for a loved one. Anastasia grew up watching her father be a caregiver and later saw him need help himself. At the same time, Zafeer's aunt began suffering from Alzheimer's, and the family faced the emotional and logistical challenges that come with finding reliable care. Those experiences opened their eyes to how many families are struggling to find the right support, and they wanted to be part of the solution.

Anastasia brings a strong professional background to the table, having worked in banking and engineering before transitioning into IT, where she's currently pursuing a master's degree. Zafeer has always been deeply involved in their conversations about how to give back to the community, and together they saw senior care as the right next step. Their Right at Home* location officially opened on July 17, 2025 to serve Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, and North San Jose.

The Khans are focused on building a strong foundation and hope to expand into specialized medical care in the future. For them, Right at Home is a personal mission to help others navigate the same journey they've been through.

1851 Franchise recently spoke with Anastasia about her and Zafeer's franchising journey with Right at Home and their ambitious expansion plans. Here's what they had to say:

1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us. What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?

Anastasia Khan: I used to be an engineer at Westat, and my background is in banking. I worked for Bank of America and Navy Federal Credit Union before transferring to Westat. I'm currently pursuing my master's in Information Technology Management. My husband and I have been discussing our next steps in life, particularly how we can be useful to the community. He suggested that, based on our personal experiences with our parents, we focus on caregiving. My dad used to be a caregiver and now needs help himself. Additionally, my husband's aunt is unfortunately suffering from Alzheimer's, which is very difficult for her. So it was a huge problem to find a trusted person and we decided to dig into this business to see how we can be useful for other families.

1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?

Anastasia: First and foremost, it's about support. Opening a company from scratch by yourself involves a lot - marketing, documentation, legal, and many other areas. A franchise already has these established, and they know how to make a business successful because they have prior experience and a plan to ensure your success. This is truly helpful, and it's a great position to be in. From Right at Home, we feel a lot of support every day. It doesn't matter what time, we can always email or shoot a text to our coach - she's incredible.

1851: What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?

Anastasia: My husband and I started shopping around and calling other brands, having conversations with them. Compared to other companies, Right at Home was definitely very interested, and they answered all our questions without hiding anything. We felt that other places didn't really want to sell to us, which was a bit strange. But Right at Home was like, "Yeah, guys, you should go and read this information." They even gave us a list of people we could talk to and ask about their experiences with the business. This openness was really great and helpful.

I like to be on the safe side with documents. Right at Home offers technical and legal support with documentation, HIPAA compliance, and more. Their website has a hub with study materials, information, and state-specific templates, which I find very helpful.

1851: What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?

Anastasia: We are hoping to expand our territory. Hopefully, within the next year, we'll be able to obtain the license to provide specialized medical health care.

1851: Is there anything else about your story you want us to know?

Anastasia: We're excited to be open and start with Right at Home. We're ready to work with everyone.

1851: What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming franchise owners?

Anastasia: I would definitely shop around and compare the companies to choose the best one for you. Choose where you can find the most support. Ask a lot of questions.
