For Katung Aduwak, becoming a Right at Home Franchise Owner was more than a business decision. It was a personal mission shaped by his own experience receiving care and his business partner’s desire to support her aging parents.
Katung owns a Right at Home territory in the greater South Seattle area with his partner, Tanya Bridges. After becoming owners in 2024, they set out to build a business rooted in connection, compassion, and community.
“My name means the reason why people come together,” Katung says. “And that’s exactly what this business allows me to do.”
Inspired by the Power of Care
Katung’s path to home care began more than 20 years ago, after a serious accident left him paralyzed and in a coma. Through a long recovery, it was his caregivers who helped him regain independence.
“They never gave up on me,” he says. “I always knew I wanted to pay that forward.”
At the same time, Tanya had firsthand experience navigating care for her parents after a fall at home. Together, they saw an opportunity to build a business that aligned with their personal experiences and values.
“If we’re going to make a living, let’s do something we love. Something that truly helps people,” Katung says.
A People-First Business
Katung is candid about the realities of ownership. Early on, there are no typical workdays.
“This is controlled chaos,” he says. “High stakes and a lot of puzzle solving.”
Each day begins with reviewing schedules, filling caregiver callouts, and ensuring client coverage. From there, the focus shifts to operations: billing, payroll, and performance, alongside ongoing relationship-building with caregivers and clients.
“We don’t just call caregivers about shifts,” he says. “We check in on them as people. Without that, you don’t have a business.”
The same mindset applies to clients, with proactive communication and personalized care at the center of their approach.
The Power of Support
For Katung, one of the biggest advantages of franchising with Right at Home is the support System.
“The fact that I can call another owner or my coach at any time; that’s invaluable,” he says.
From Brand recognition to training and operational resources, Katung credits the System for helping him grow while still allowing flexibility.
“They give you guardrails, but also the freedom to build a business that fits your market,” he explains.
A Lesson in Growth
Katung’s biggest advice for prospective owners is simple: don’t try to do it alone.
“Don’t be a lone wolf,” he says. “You cannot do everything yourself.”
After initially taking on too much, he’s since grown his team and seen significant improvement in both operations and scalability.
“The more people you have with the right strengths, the stronger your business becomes,” he says.
Making a Meaningful Impact
While Katung is proud to have exceeded his first-year projections, the most meaningful moments come from the impact his business has on families.
“Helping turn sons and daughters from caregivers back into family; that's what matters most,” he says.
Having once relied on loved ones himself, Katung understands the relief that quality care can bring.
“Now I get to give that freedom back to others,” he says.
Katung’s journey reflects what makes Right at Home ownership unique: a blend of personal purpose, operational support, and the opportunity to make a lasting impact.
For those considering Franchise ownership, his story is a reminder that success in this space starts with heart and grows through connection.
